Hello,

I once tried to eat fruit only on breakfast but after two hours I felt pretty hungry, nervous and body temperature fell. Eating more fruit didnt help. I had to get some cereal. That experience kept me from trying 80/10/10. Could you give some advice to avoid that problem? Thank you.

Hi there!
it sounds somehow that you were not getting enough fruits, otherwise you wouldn't feel hungry after a couple of hours.
How much fruit did you actually eat? It you could give quantities and what type of fruits it might help understand what was going on.
And in any case getting nervous and having your body temperature fall doesn't sound very normal and shouldn't happen in a healthy situation, no matter how much fruit you're eating for breakfast. It seems very strange that it would happen with fruits only and not with cereals.
Again sounds like undereating to me.
What were you eating the rest of the day? 80/10/10 too? for how long?

Eating fruit alone on breakfast was the advice of a naturopath. It was not really 80/10/10, but a cooked vegan diet. I used to have a large smoothie ( 8 cups or so) combining tropical fruits and different berries and eventually some ready to eat cereal to avoid the problems mentioned before. The naturopath intended to help with insomnia.

Again, feels like you just didn't get enough calories. Not sure about the nervousness and body temperature tough. Sounds like that might be something else not directly related to what you ate

Not enough cals, not enough protein, perhaps not enough sugar either. I've been there, so I know. And I'm active in the morning so in the beginning when I was going raw, if I didn't eat a lot, I got your symptoms. Get some bananas. Or real sweet fruit. Strawberries, anything :) Oranges for breakfast would starve me, bananas + oranges is nice.
Now I can only eat fruits for breakfast. My body would rather starve in the morning (bearing in mind that I train actively) than have something else than sweet, juicy fruit! Mmmmm!

beware of combination such as oranges+bananas though as they are not ideal in terms of food combining.
You might want to try and see for yourself as everyone reacts a bit differently to it.
I used to like that combination a lot in a smoothie actually ;-)

I've been eating bananas + oranges for breakfast (Not much else available in the winter anyway) for quite some time and I'm feeling good. But I'm not a very sensitive person so if there's something wrong with it, may be I wouldn't notice it. Why are they not good in terms of combining?

Acid fruits and sweet fruits are not supposed to combine well, meaning digest, together...
again I personally did not really experience much problem with that very combination either...

In a bid to start eating healthier we are going to start having chopped fruit for breakfast. Other than the usual apples, bananas and tinned fruit, has anyone got some ideas on what is nice and does not go off in a couple of days.

I buy dry fruit as well which goes good with tinned fruit in juice. Im not really sure how long tined fruit lasts when its opened, so probably not worth going for the extra large cans.

What about kiwi and pears?

"I once tried to eat fruit only on breakfast but after two hours I felt pretty hungry, nervous and body temperature fell."

I can get the nervousness and I can get very cold when my body is detoxing. Eating more fruit of course will support your body detoxing and so it doesn't eliminate these symptoms, but eating cereal will slow down the detox. It's okay to slow down the detox if you need to, but in my experience, the nervousness and cold are not harmful.

I have a body that burns a lot of calories quickly also. I typically start my day with watery fruit and bring a couple of bananas with me, or I have some dried fruit that I've soaked in water overnight.

I recommend reading the book "Wheat Belly" wherein the author shows how wheat crosses the blood/brain barrier and makes us as addictive to wheat as cocaine or other drugs. If the cereal is a wheat cereal that might be the problem, i.e., the usual withdrawal symptoms from an addictive drug. Additionally, wheat has a glycemic index higher than pure white sugar. So if you are hypoglycemic you are in deep trouble. Before 80/10/10 I was always in shaky state unless I ate a protein with whatever wheat intake I had like a biscuit I had to have an egg to keep from getting the shakes.

Since doing fruit I never have the shakes or a need for protein.

My breakfast is 6 to 7 bananas blended in a Vita-Mix with some green from my garden. Most greens survive the winters here with loss of leaves with a hard freeze, but returning to growth with a few days below freezing. The smoothie keeps me active until lunch sometimes at 11:00, sometimes later depending on what work I have planned for the day. Breakfast is usually at 5:00 am.
