I believe that what people mostly do to avoid cold during winter is:
- wear warm clothing
- heat up the places they live in
- get close to other live and warm beings

Warmer food is really not something that plays such a big role in keeping people warm, although it can be a nice feeling when you're really cold. If you were to rely on food alone to warm you up, you would need to be eating all day!

I forgot something really important too, that my morning run reminded me of

You could always move to Nevada, I live in Carson City and it really doesn't
get cold here. This winter we had less than 1 inch of snow, and the sun shines
about 98% of the time.
