I'm stretching more than ever, aiming for more flexibility. Just got past maybe 105 degrees with the full splits, 180 degrees not quite yet on the horizon. :mozilla_smile

Dakarai, age nearly 3, likes to join in and show me just how easy all this 'stretching stuff' is. I do so enjoy his innocent manner of demonstrating my incompetence. :mozilla_innocent

What are you doing to prepare for the acrobatic feats of fun surely to abound this year at Health and Fitness Week 2012?

Good question and I'll be looking forward to the answers :-)
I really need to start (again?) to work on my flexibility.
It's really one of those things that's been on my todo list for sooooo long and I never really took care of it.
I feel that now the time has come to take it seriously! It is so important for everything else!!
Yoga could be a good start :-)

As for training at the moment I'm focusing on Calisthenics, since I read the convict conditioning book, that aims at developing strength through bodyweight only exercises.
Very simple approach, very pure. I like the idea a lot. So looking forward to the great results! :)

With strength and flexibility, what else do you need for acrobatics?
Can't wait to be at Health & Fitness week this year, it's going to be so much fun!! :D
Would love to know who else is going!!?

To improve flexibility I've been:
- sleeping well
- staying hydrated
- eating juicy fruits like canteloupe (aka rockmelon), honeydew, persimmon, oranges, and custard apples
- being active through running (from sprints through to ultras, from steep sanddunes to flat roads and track training), swimming, and a range of bodyweight activities

Stretching? I haven't been doing much at all but that would probably help too :)
Yoga? I haven't done any for a couple of months but yoga definitely improves my flexibility when I do it regularly (e.g. at least 3 times a week).

105 degrees Kevin! Wow that's a big improvement on last year! Well done!!!

Awesome! I don't doubt that for a second.
Will we get a demo at Acro Health and Fitness Week? :)

Super excited to meet everyone at Health and Fitness week! I've been doing lots of yoga, but need to improve my strength training! I'm sure this week coming up will be huge motivation for me to get stronger!

Running!

I am a walker all the way. I just feel so heavy when I try to run. So today I ran for 15 min at a very slow pace. I'm hoping to get some advice on that.

Cheers to all!!

Hi Laura! We're super excited to meet all of you too!
Yoga is a great way to build strength, flexibility and balance.
Come ready to learn a tonne of stuff during Health and Fitness Week! :)

...be careful what you tell yourself or you may limit your opportunities for growth :)

There could be numerous reasons that you feel heavy when you run. For example, you may be dehydrated, underslept, fatigued, carrying undigested food, eating too much overtly fatty food, or simply not eating enough calories.
You'll have plenty of opportunities to ask questions about running during HFW. We look forward to answering your questions :)
