Parents Put Your Mask on First OR Your Children Suffer

After a smiling momentary pause, “Yes, it is the most beautiful expression of selfishness,” the woman warmly replied, “It is not that adults would not or should not help the children and babies first, but rather that adults cannot properly help children without helping themselves first.”

Now, being the father of two children I have ample opportunity to experience the truth of this wise woman&#8217s words, and the strongest example that comes to mind occurred in the following few months after having discovered The 80/10/10 Diet. Continue reading

UK Fruit Fest Testimonial

When I heard about the premier of the first annual UK Fruit Fest, I just knew I had to be there. My dear friend Katy Craine would be heading the kitchen, and judging from prior experience I knew how well we worked together in that niche, and I wanted to be by her side. I knew that I belonged as a volunteer in the kitchen.

The event was small enough to feel extremely intimate, while at the same time Continue reading

Monomeals

As I continue my raw foods journey, I have come to appreciate the simplicity and pure enjoyment that comes from eating one fruit at a time. I am healing several digestive issues and have experienced the highest level of relief through eating water rich fruits in mono form. What exactly is a monomeal you ask? To eat one type of food for a meal. In the case of raw vegans, have one type of fruit or vegetable as a meal. For example, having a meal that consists of only peaches.

When introduced to this idea I thought it was a little bit dramatic and downright insane, and if you're not familiar with the concept, you may too. Fear not! When put into practice, I have experienced that this is the optimal way for my body to digest food effortlessly. Continue reading

What Grant Campbell Eats in a Day : Grant Campbell: Accomplished Athlete and Seasoned 80/10/10 Raw Vegan

80/10/10 isn’t about eating less than 10% of total calories from fat and from protein in every meal, or even every day, but rather as an average over the course of a month. Even for the week, Grant’s fat intake was still below 10% of total calories despite the quantity of durian consumed on this day.

Grant Campbell (aka Raw Aussie Athlete), ultramarathoner, fruit connoisseur and our very own Director of Education has been an 80/10/10 raw vegan since 2005 and a devoted vegan since 1999.

What then, does a seasoned fruit lover and elite athlete eat in a day? Let’s take a look! Continue reading

That was one Tough Mudder!

It isn't every day that one gets the chance to jump into a pool of ice water, swim underwater to the far end, break through the ice, and then laugh at yourself as your muscles completely fail you in your efforts to simply climb out of the freezing wet, unable to feel your legs. Nor do we often have the opportunity to crawl under a real army tank through thick, wet mud, carry someone your own weight up a long hill, climb high walls, steep ramps, and other forbidding obstacles, run through cages fitted with thousands of live electric wires, and attempt to conquer a dozen or so other fitness challenges, all during the course of an otherwise normal but very hilly, twelve-mile run. Tough Mudder is truly an assault course, designed to challenge and entertain reasonably fit individuals, with a variety of creative stations. I didn't master all of them, but I did complete the course.

The first few events were relatively tame … Continue reading
